Identifying the quality of cables requires specialized equipment and instruments. However, these devices and instruments are not available to design and engineering units. In practical engineering, how to identify the quality of video cables?

1. PVC sheath: The surface can show a regular "unevenness" of the compressed inner mesh, indicating good processing technology, and there will be no relative sliding, which is a good cable. The appearance is smooth, and the "unevenness" of the compressed mesh cannot be seen. If the sheath feels loose when pinched, it is a poor cable.

2. Check the shielding layer mesh: Is the mesh count sufficient? Copper mesh, check solderability, scrape the tinned copper wire to see if it is copper wire inside, the hardness of aluminum-magnesium alloy wire is significantly greater than that of copper wire; sparse mesh, uneven distribution, and loose wrapping with the insulating layer are signs of poor cable.

Check the adhesion between the core wire and the insulating layer: Cut the insulating layer diagonally, pull the core wire apart in the direction of stripping, and see if there are any adhesive materials between the core wire and the insulating layer; good cables have a strong adhesion, while poor cables do not adhere.

5. Longitudinal tensile test: Take one meter of cable, strip the core wire, insulating layer, shielding layer, and outer sheath, leaving each 10 cm long. The method is: hold the adjacent two layers of the cable with both hands and pull in opposite directions; good cables generally cannot be pulled apart with force, while poor cables can be easily pulled out without much effort - this point is very important for elevator cables, as many so-called "elevator special cables" have this issue.

Generally, monitoring video cables are connected with BNC connectors, and both ends need to be soldered well. Do not use solder paste, as improper cleaning of residual paste can lead to endless problems. Use high-quality solder wire, as the rosin in the solder wire has a good soldering effect and will not corrode the components. There are two soldering methods:
1. Strip the wire, insert the core into the soldering hole of the BNC connector (or tighten with screws), place the solder wire at the soldering point, press the soldering iron tip on the solder wire to melt it, and move the soldering iron tip to ensure even penetration of the solder. The shielding layer is soldered in the same way.
Key point: The soldering speed should be fast, and the soldering iron tip should be removed before the rosin evaporates to keep the solder joint smooth and free of burrs.
2. Strip the wire, place the solder wire on the core wire and melt it with the soldering iron, insert the tinned core wire into the soldering hole of the BNC connector, and use the soldering iron to melt the solder on the core wire again to fuse it with the BNC connector.
Key point: The speed of tinning the core wire should be fast to avoid damaging the insulating layer, and there should be enough solder on the core wire to ensure a strong solder joint.
